EXPO'10: For Schools

Hours 6:00 - 9:00 pm

Inspire your students to become innovators - Visit the EXPO!

Empower your students to become global citizens - Exhibit at the EXPO!

Take them on an exciting educational journey through hands-on exhibits demonstrating creative solutions and limitless opportunities...

EXPO'10 was a little different …Although the Students for a Sustainable Future EXPO has ALWAYS been about schools, and about green – EXPO'10 was all about green schools. In celebration of the newly launched Green Schools Coalition of Westchester, CELF partnered with GSCW to make our 5th EXPO something very special.

This year we explored the "WHATs", "WHYs" and "HOWs" of green schools.

What is a green school? How can a school become more sustainable, both in its teaching and in its physical plant? Why should schools choose green services and products? What innovative resources are available to schools - what works best for your unique environment?

EXPO'10 helped answer your green school questions.Visitors joined CELF as we applauded the many green school successes, and we encouraged and inspired other schools to follow suit. Already green? Some schools share how. Want to get there? Others came to learn how.

Visiting students toured booths that showcased products, programs and services that either helped make schools greener, or supported them in their sustainability efforts. Exhibiting students demonstrated their own projects that challenged the unsustainable status-quo.

green school /grEn skül / n. a school building or facility that creates a healthy environment that is conducive to learning while saving energy, resources and money. (US Green Building Council)  It is a place where sustainability education is the norm, not just a dream. It is a place where students graduate not only literate, but environmentally literate; a place where social justice is valued as highly as calculus. A green school produces global citizens.
