Application for participants working on the MA Education for Sustainability (EfS) Pilot Curriculum:

Participants developing content for the MA EfS Pilot will create a minimum of two lesson plans aligned with state curriculum frameworks and national EfS standards. Participants contributing to the MA EfS Curriculum Pilot may apply for scholarships and/or stipends. Candidates for the Pilot will be confirmed by June 11.

Education for Sustainability is interdisciplinary, hands on, student-centered, inquiry driven and relevant to students’ everyday lives. It brings the outside world into the classroom as a meaningful context for learning, so that students can understand their connection to, and role within, local and global environments/communities.

See the following link for an example of a unit that has been reworked to incorporate sustainability concepts.

Please provide general descriptions for 2 lessons that you already use that you would be willing to bring to the Summer Institute and rework to incorporate a sustainability focus. Important:  The lessons you choose should:
a. be easily incorporated by any MA teacher of your subject and grade level
b. accomplish clear goals and be explicitly aligned with subject/grade level state standards.

You may choose to change these choices later, or create a new lesson from scratch but it is helpful for planning purposes to have an idea of what topic areas will be covered.
