Step Up for Sustainable Schools - Children's Environmental Literacy Foundation

Did you know that  $56,100,000 set aside for teacher development was cut from the NYC Department of Education school budget for the coming school year?

And that’s just one district, in one city. Cities and schools across the country are facing the same sort of financial decisions, even though the need to support our educators and young people is more vital now than ever before.

We know that professional development for educators has a direct and positive impact on student achievement. Helping just one teacher improve their practice ultimately helps hundreds of students thrive.

Teachers need access to professional learning that empowers them to construct a virtual learning environment and to ensure that our youth have hands-on, real-world learning experiences that inspire them to create a more sustainable, equitable planet.

With government entities and corporations setting aside environmental commitments and regulations to focus on economic recovery, we need to ensure that our schools have the capacity to embrace a sustainability curriculum.  Our youngest generation will be on the frontlines of any future pandemic which, much like today, can only be faced with an understanding of the deep connection our economy has to environmental integrity and social equity.

Join CELF and “Step Up for Sustainable Schools” to fill the gap left by school budget cuts. Your donation today will help CELF provide teachers with training to integrate sustainability into their curriculum, utilizing innovative, engaging tools that keep kids engaged and excited to learn, wherever they are: at home, in school, or outside.

In addition to professional development, our programs offer teachers the opportunity to build community amongst a supportive network of their peers, share resources, and access year-long support from our Educator team.
